1991 It was a good thing when Wallmart sold handguns because they carried Colts,Smith & Wessons,Rugers, and several more from noted manufactures. The prices were better than what I would see around town at the dealers. When I purchased my S&W Model 29-3 ( .44 magnum ) it was priced at $400.;but something happened that made Wallmart stand out above the rest. After I got back home I noticed some light rust on the back strap and trigger guard;I called the sport goods manager at Wallmart and explained it to him.He told me that they could refund my money or I could look over others from the stock and choose another.I met one of the clerks at the customer service counter, where she had four other S&W 29s with the same six inch barrels;this was on a Friday afternoon and the store was very crowded. In the front of the store,I stood, with five "Dirty Harry"Magnums laid out on the counter, holding each one up at the lights, and inspecting each one to pick the better of the five.People were everywhere, but nobody said or uttered the slightest word.Times change rather quickly over a short period of time; that was in 1991.
