Unlike so many others hoping to get a child into preschool this fall, they have already secured one of the coveted slots.
Although preschools are still accepting applications, chances of getting into one are quite slim.
That’s the bad news.
The program emphasizes growth in language and literacy, math concepts, science, social studies, arts, health and physical development, and social and emotional competence.
Pre-k programs have a tremendous impact on children’s learning abilities, said Jo Kirchner, CEO of Primrose Schools and a member of the board of Early Care and Education Consortium, an organization of for-profit child care companies in America.
Parents can search for pre-k slots in their area through the agency’s Web site: www.decal.ga.gov. They may also contact Quality Care for Children, a nonprofit which provides free child care referral, at 1-877-AllGAKIDS (1-877-255-4254) or log onto www.qualitycareforchildren.org.
