...This is no political rant : .....Several years ago; For the first time in 30 years, I began seeing rats and rat holes around my house...right outside my backdoor. These was not mice, these was large fat rats, and their tunnels was wide enough to place a softball in. I bought some large rat traps, but they kept coming and I kept catching them with rat traps. I seemed as though we wasn't the only ones that having this sudden outbreak of rats in our neighborhood, the rats was running free to every house nearby. With the rats, there was large snakes...not garder snakes ...I mean big snakes, as we walked from our doors. ...One day, I noticed that I haven't seen any cats around our neighborhood. ...I also noticed there was many mole tunnels in our yard.
....Within a week after having this thought about the Cats, a pregnant cat came to our house and took up residence with us. At the very same time, another pregnant Cat took up residence with the house next door. When these Cats had their kittens, and winged them, they took off, leaving the kittens behind. We feed the kittens and cared for these kittens. When these kittens growing, so did their natural hunting skills. It wasn't a long wait, until the rats and the large snakes vacated the premises in my neighborhood. The Cats also kept a watchful eye on the mole holes, and bring their trophies to our door step.....or eat the moles.
...The Clayton County Commissioners should be thinking about a catch and release program for stray cats, before this county is taken over by rats, moles, and snakes. Our Feline friends provides for a valuable service in our neighborhoods....Cats are nature's way of controlling the rodent population.
