US 29 to the southwest of Atlanta has been named Roosevelt Highway, since FDR made his final journey northward from Warm Springs along this stretch of highway. Large crowds gathered along US 29 on this day in April 1945 to pay their final respects to the deceased President. Unfortunately for those who waited along the highway they missed seeing the president's body being transported back to Washington on a train than ran on nearby tracks.
Interstate 85 in Georgia usually runs roughly parallel with the route of U.S. Highway 29.
From Interstate 1-85 through Atlanta
From LaGrange, I-85 heads northeastward towards Atlanta. Before reaching Atlanta, the highway drives through a recently widened stretch that includes 6 to 8 lanes between exit 35 to exit 77, passing near the suburbs of Moreland, Newnan, Fairburn, Union City, College Park and East Point as well as intersecting Interstate 285 at its southwest end and providing access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. I-85 then runs along the northwestern boundary of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

....With the construction of Interstate 1-85, during the mid-sixties, this took the traffic away from the businesses on The Roosevelt Hwy (Hwy 29). Hwy 29 ( Roosevelt Hwy ) reminds me of what happened with the Route 66 Hwy when it was bypassed by Interstate 40,a modern four-lane highway.Another factor was the speed limits on the Interstate Hwy in Georgia from 1963–1974: 70 mph day/65 mph night.
