The vote was 41,170 (67%) yes, and 19,959 (33%) no.

If Clayton joins MARTA, residents will pay an additional one cent sales tax on items purchased in Clayton County, which will to go Clayton County to fund MARTA. Fulton and Dekalb residents already pay a one cent sales tax.

Bell and other commissioners supported the return of local bus service to Clayton County under a regional transportation sales tax. The tax would have required residents across 10 metro Atlanta counties to pay for the service — which would have only operated in Clayton County. The tax was rejected by voters across the region on July 31.

“We have an opportunity to do something that no other county in this state does,” said Abdul-Salaam. “We have a ‘Plan B’ in place.”

Turner said bringing back mass transit would alleviate traffic congestion in the county, but he also said the local leaders need to fix the existing roads on which potential buses would travel. “The roadway system in this county needs work badly,” he said. “The roadways are deteriorating before our eyes and it doesn’t seem to be getting better.”

T-SPLOST Loses in Clayton

With almost 18,000 ballots counted late Tuesday, the T-SPLOST failed in Clayton with only about 45 percent of the vote in favor. Only DeKalb and Fulton counties, each with about 48 percent in favor, did better.

State Rep. Keisha Waites Drafts Southside Transit Authority Bill

If the legislation, which is co-sponsored by State Rep. Sandra Scott (D-Rex) and State Rep.-elect Valencia Stovall, who will represent the Riverdale area, would be a means to create the Atlanta-to-Macon commuter rail line that transit proponents have been pushing for years. It would also bring local bus service back to Clayton County for the first time since the Clayton County Board of Commissioners shut down the C-Tran bus service in 2010.

.....I reckon that these worthless legislators will be forcing us to bail out MARTA, and to pay for something that we don't use. Don't tax those that don't use this rail and bus service; Be honest, for once, and let the riders pay for it !!!

The Clayton County C-Tran system had cost about $10 million per year to operate while collecting $2.5 million in farebox revenue, to add more punishment, Now they want a Rail System...Another White Elephant to support.
