Georgia Virtual Online Homeschool Support

Home School Information :

Georgia Virtual School courses are available to home school students. Beginning July 1, 2012 there will be an allotment of state funded seats each school year for home school students. Once the allotment has been reached, students will be required to pay tuition of $250 per half unit of credit for all enrollments. State funded seats are available on a first-come first-served basis. Students may enroll in as many courses as they would like each semester.

Can my home school student participate in the activities and athletics of his/her local public school?

Answer:

No. Pursuant to State Board Rule 160-5-1-.18, students wishing to participate in public school interscholastic competitive activities must be enrolled full-time in a public school during the semester of participation. For a full list of participation rules, read the State Board Rule here.

Homeschool Options in Georgia

In the State of Georgia, parents or guardians with a high school diploma or equivalent may provide home study for their children ages 6 to16 years old. Other requirements for home study programs are available through the Georgia Department of Education. (See References 1) Homeschool families often become members of homeschool support groups that provide activities such as field trips, classes, workshops, teen groups, testing, spelling bees and athletics.
