.....The Fairburn Drag Strip was a small airplane, privately owned, Airport for daytime flying. They had rental planes, private certified instruction, and a one flying strip of paved surface.
...At night fall, it served as a Drag Strip for locals, Pro-Street, & Pro-Class Drag. Many came to this strip during the peak of the muscle car era, during the mid-sixties, and I was there to witness several of these events.
....My dad was a private pilot, and he took his first 200 hrs, of flying time, from the Fairburn Airport; He was also an electrician and he work on the lights for the Drag Strip, in exchanged for flying time on the rental planes.
....This was happening during 1967 - 68.

....For the local teenagers; The Fairburn Drag Strip was the place to go, to prove the performance of your ride. The major American Auto makers was building "Ready-Go-High Performance-Muscle Cars" .made for the Drag Strip, fresh from the factory, during the 60's. Acceleration times was bragging rights, but racing head to head, to settle disputed differences, was more important than anything else.
....I posted this in the Clayton County area, because I lived in the North Clayton area of College Park from 1960 to 1968. We was just a spitting distance from the South Fulton County line. All of our communities has since been buried underneath the expansion of the Airport; Nothing remains but memories. However, some things wasn't buried or decayed with age. Our path way to The Drag Strip was by the way of the old two lane Roosevelt Hiway, coming from the south end of Downtown College Park. We also had our local Drive In Movie Theater, on the same road, among other Stores, Our Southside Baptist Church, Jamestown Shopping Center, and Mulliers Bar Que Restaurant.
