Last Updated On: 12/17/2008 12:15:24 AM CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- It's been over four months since Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill lost his battle for re-election, getting ousted in the primaries.
Since then he has rarely been seen, but he's back in the headlines this week for alleged misuse of a county credit card.
County officials say Hill used it to attend a law enforcement conference in Las Vegas last week, even though he will only be sheriff for two more weeks. The county attorney, Michael Smith, is investigating the alleged misuse of the card.
Hill reportedly fired his chief deputy last week for refusing to secretly tape conversations between himself and Sheriff-elect Kem Kimbrough.
John Gibson told 11Alive News he refused to tape the conversation so Hill fired him. He also said that Hill told him he wanted the Sheriff's Department to be a mess when Kimbrough took over. Hill has not responded to Gibson's allegations.
11Alive's Jaye Watson called Hill's office on Tuesday. His secretary said he was in, but his parking space at the department was empty.
Watson and a news photographer went to Hill's home and knocked on the door.
Hill shouted through the door, "Who's there?"
Watson answered, identifying herself.
Hill then quickly closed an open garage door and wouldn't open the door. There was also a For Sale sign in Hill's front yard.
